Thank you! I'm going to avoid upgrading my X-T1 in the future, unless some additional useful upgrade comes out. As far as I understand, there probably won't be more upgrades for X-T1 at this point anyway.

Seems like the best way forward if you want an easy life with the Fujis and flash is to get the new EF-X500.
This seems a bit unfriendly from a customer perspective but that is the problem with bleeding edge!

Probably so. Yet I'd still like to have the ability to download and save camera settings to a card or computer, both for security and for transfer to an identical camera body.

Yes this is a feature that should be built into all professional cameras.

Received i40 with latest firmware and my X-T1 has v. 5.01. HSS does not work. TTL is fine. In the Nissin site there's a table showing compatibility dated Jan. 2017 (Please login or register to view links) and a note saying no HSS with Fuji. When this flash is listed on retailer sites the specs indicate HSS! I have also written to Fuji and Minox which services Nissin in the US to confirm; waiting to hear back regarding the HSS issue.

Please login or register to view links is the importer for Nissin, no longer Minox, and they said they will reverse engineer the i40 and i60, for Fuji HSS (which as you said, does NOT work currently on either model) but have not set a date for the upgrade. Of course, you will have to send the unit in for the update, the connector is proprietary.

FYI, Nissin issued a press release announcing a firmware update for the Nissin i40/i60/Di700 and the Air commander system that WILL support HSS with all Fujifilm cameras updated to the new flash system (X-T1 FW 5+, Xpro-2 FW2+ and X-T2).
    Release : mid-May 2017
