if you are positive the file name is correct, file size is correct, you're putting file on a formatted card and following the steps and you get that error message, there is something wrong with the camera.

Typos can be fixed on mobile, too. :) These need to be clarified as it's only adding to the confusion here.

It seems like someone has done something to make the camera accept X-E2 firmware, I'm curious why someone would do this since for all and intents and purposes these models are identical. My only thought would be to allow the button on the X-E2s marked "auto" to be reassigned? I don't know, would it normally be a permanently set button? Either way I think the OP needs to be sending the camera back and getting a refund, since technically they did not get what they paid for.

Looking at the some replies I recall that when I updated my X-E2s, I experienced also that the camera would not find the new firmware on the formatted card. I found out that the Mac is doing something to the firmware file name in the case if there is more than one firmware in the same folder in the computer. After removing all updates in the folder in my Mac and downloading again to the SD card the camera performed the update without problems.

The camera works perfectly and is in excellent condition- almost like it was never used. I have a feeling she wasn’t very computer savvy, but maybe she was a little TOO savvy!

I will probably contact Fuji to see what we can do. I’m sure this is not a totally unique occurrence.

Thanks for all the input (and input to come). Very refreshing and appreciated.

BTW, I may be a Fujifilm newbee, but I’m not a photography newbee. Cut my teeth on 4x5 View, RB-67, and Hasselblad back in the 1970’s and 80’s.

It's the sort of thing that can (I think) happen if somebody who isn't computer savvy asks a friend for advice.

If you download a second file with the same name then any computer only has two choices. It either overwrites the original file or creates a new name for file two. Personally I prefer the MacOS approach of the two - but I accept it might be better for the computer to ask first!

There are too many of unknowns in this equation.
The only thing I could tell you, is not to try to change something what could give some another unknow answer. (unpredictable consequences and not allowing any conclusion to be drawn)

The only answer to find, is nearby the Fujifilm Customer Service.
Please, tell us when you have it.
