Fortuna Bay is 3 miles (5 km) long and 1 mile (1.6 km) wide, on the north coast of South Georgia Island, not far from Antarctica. It is home to numerous seals. The supervising biologists guiding our trip told us of the firm rule that we are not allowed to approach seals or other wildlife closer than 15 feet (5 meters). However, if the wildlife approached us, we were instructed not to run away, just to be still and cautious. Some of the seals were more curious about us than afraid of us, and came close. Sometimes too close. Especially if the photographer had any food in a jacket or pants pocket.

They were for me, but a bit scary for some of the human subjects.

They would taste quite fishy, as that is what they eat.

I gew up eating seals, they are one of the healthiest meats you can eat. Unlike chicken or beef which is tampered with anibiotics etc. Of course that is if one eats meat. Beautiful animal but tasty....lol. Beautiful pictures though.

They are costly but OneOcean and its competitors have several trips a year to both Antarctica and the Arctic.

The south east coast of Wellington (NZ). NZ fur seals are very common there. As kids we spent many hours watching them and Sea Lions in the area.
