A few weeks ago, I ran into this guy making a few bucks selling Instax photos on the street here in Vancouver. He was chatty, and we talked about our cameras for a while. I use an X-T1 with 18-55. He was quite a character and was happy to be photographed.

Turns out, we were in front of the BC Marijuana Party HQ. That's a real, registered political party which for years, has run candidates in BC elections on a platform of legalizing marijuana. Looks like maybe their work has been worth it though, since the federal government has announced that the recreational use of pot will be legal across Canada by next summer.

Well, if the idea behind that sex party is equal rights for LGBT people, then I am all for it

Some people have very creative ways to make money! Last year I met a guy on roller skates, who asked car drivers leaving the place for their non-expired tickets, selling them to newcomers for a small fee. Great guy, but sadly I only had my smartphone camera with me (lesson learned ).

Can't do that here anymore, our tickets are only sold by entering your plate (tag) number first. They are specific to the car, which IMHO is horse feathers.

I thought the USA was the home of 21st century innovation but it appears that you guys are so 20th century.... :D
Here there are no tickets. Your registration plate is scanned as you enter. If you exceed your free parking time allowance time or there is no free time you just go to the machine on the way back to your car type in your reg number and it tells you what to pay. Then when you get to the exit gate it scans your reg plate and opens or stays closed if you haven't paid.

In my best fake Australian accent: "That's not a parking ticket system...this is a parking ticket system"

    With apologies to Crocodile Dundee.

I often find non conventional people more interesting. Okay some are mental, but we are all different and it's great to be sociable.
    Great thread this.

Gate? Gate? We pay to park on the streets man, by plate no less! BUt I really like the sound of your system, not because it's clever or high-tech, but because you get some free time. In Canada (where I am BTW :) ) and the US the free time is to allow you to get your money in the machine, no more!

Great thread folks. Lots of fun.
    Thanks for the comments.
As for parking here in Vancouver, at parking meters and in some lots, we can pay with an app.
You set up an account first. Just punch in a reference number specific to the meter you're at into your smart phone, plus how many minutes you want. The app notifies you when you are about to expire and you can add more time from wherever you are.
