I have been using back button focus with manual focus peaking but, I have to hold my af-l button down to lock focus, as soon as I let go the focus point is lost. When I have my camera set to af-s,af-c and I press af-l the focus box locks and I don't have to hold the button down. I can't seem to replicate this with manual focus selected ? Any ideas or suggestions ?

Also what is the way most of you guys/ladies focus with your X-T2 ?

    thanks-

I don't understand why the focus is lost in manual focusing mode. It should not change unless you touch the focus ring on the lens.

What lens? Your Fuji 23mm f/1.4 behaves very different due to that clutch

Manual focus w/peaking is how I normally shoot as well. I have been trying replicate your issue but, my camera won't do it. Once I press AF-L it is done focusing. I can pan around the room, come back to the original focal point, and still see the peaking lit up. Hmmmm.....
