I've probably missed some basic setting explained in the manual...

I've enjoyed shooting the northern lights recently, with the exception of the white at the front of the X-T2 blinking before every exposure. I setup a 2 second timer and use manual focus. Can I disable that light?

I believe you are talking about the AF ILLUMINATOR--yes, that can be turned off in the menus (I believe the AF/MF menu).

It's off. Neglected to mention that. I think it's related to the countdown timer feature.

Can't say with complete certainty, but offhand (without plowing through the menus, etc.), I don't think I've seen any setting to turn that light off in relation to the self-timer. If it really can't be disabled, I guess you could cover the light with a small piece of black tape or something.

I can't find a way to shut off the self-timer lamp in the manual, either. You may have to go with a remote [or gaffer tape].

I don't believe you can disable the blinking self timer LED. It is there to give you a visual warning when taking selfies.
A small piece of black tape is probably the answer.

Maybe Lensmate can sell me a gobo sticker for that light to project my personality into the faces of other photographers shooting nearby.

At least on the X-T1 it can be forced with the SOUND AND FLASH OFF = ON setting.

@lightingwizard I'm jealous. I have AF beep, self-timer beep, operation vol, and shutter volume at "off". Flash is "off" too. AF illuminator is off. Still have a countdown flash for the self timer.

I don't think you can get rid of the self timer indicator. Gaffer tape is your friend. :)

I gaffer tape the rear lights on my cameras as i often shoot with two when doing long exposures/time lapses and don't want the orange light on one of the cameras showing up in another image.
