I was shooting an event this weekend with two newly formatted cards. Before I could complete the shooting the camera was showing a memory full message even if the cards were not filled. Any ideas on the why?

Since you said that you've used freshly formatted cards, I don't think it's the same issue as in the linked post...
Are you using one card for jpegs and one for RAWs? The card for RAW files will fill up faster than the jpeg card, but you won't be able to save more files onto the card for your jpegs, since the two are linked. When one card is full, the other card becomes blocked, too.

Interesting because I had a similar problem while out in the field this past weekend...

1.Select "Renew" for "Frame No." + format the card.

    2.Take a shot.
    3.Select "Continuous" for "Frame No."
    4.Voila!

Surely this applies to Frame Number Full not Memory Full?

Could we have a bit more information?
    - What is the name of the last file number and what is the name of the last sub-directory on the card?
    - Were you saving to both cards? Raw Backup, RAW and JPEG on separate cards or sequential?
    - Were you shooting RAW and JPEG?
    - How do you know there was space on the cards? Using a computer? How big were the cards and how much free space?
    - How did you solve the problem? Did just reformat in the camera fix it?
    - Do you have the camera set to CONTINUOUS file sequencing?
    - Have you ever deleted images from the cards (either on camera or using a computer)?
    - Do you regularly reformat the cards when you download the files?

it's a pain and has happened to me in the first 10 days of buying my X-T2.
Somehow it gets to the numbering of 9999 and then doesn't click over to 0001 again.

Follow the instructions above to "renew" your frame number count and reformat the card.

I'm curious as to why this happens - you didn't notice what the directory on the card was did you? (or the prefix to the file number in playback mode)

I thought that the 4 digit number clicked over to 0001 unless you run out of directories (or the first 3 digits in playback mode reaches 999).

You should bet able to get almost 10 million files separate numbers before you run out as long as you don't manually mess with the card (unless I'm completely misunderstanding how this works).

yes I noticed. I took screen shots and I was flummoxed and very very very annoyed at the time.
    999-9999

How it got to that is anybody's guess and I do believe it's a Fuji glitch.
It was a brand new camera and a newly formatted card (in that camera)

This was the image and the directory preceding it was 999 at that time.
As you can see... not a happy camper!
