Hi, I'm new to Fuji and new to this forum. I have a question about the af-c custom settings on my new X-T2 camera. How do these work/interact in combination with the "single point", "zone" and "wide/tracking" settings? For example, suppose I would like to use custom setting 5. Do I have to, e.g., select "zone" or "wide/tracking" so that the custom setting 5 actually works?

Your custom settings would be applied in all the modes: single, wide, and zone. So the settings are about bias applied to the current AF area mode.

Personally I found #5 not to have any advantages.

Your question is open ended and it's a depends answer. I highly suggest playing around with the settings to see what works for you. There are times I have zone set, others it's single point. The setting depends on the subject and what's going on. If I'm shooting sports, I may have a wide zone. If I'm shooting hummingbirds around flowers it may be wide focus or single point. Spend some time with the camera and lens combination and find what works.

I had found this document somewhere, I don't know if it was on this forum or elsewhere, it was drafted by someone who goes by the name of Wim Arys I believe. I edited it a bit (for my own reference) because the original layout was a bit confusing, but I'm not the author. It was written 2 years ago for the then-current Fuji line-up. I found it useful when I started with the Fuji system. Hope this helps.

Hi @Camiel, welcome to the forum. I recently wrote a detailed article about how the AF-C custom settings work. I hope this helps you understand the system a little better.

Here's the link. Let me know if you have any questions.

OK, great, thanks for this answer! I wanted to shoot a soccer game and wasn't sure how exactly the AF-C custom settings work. Which mode (single, wide, zone) would you generally recommend to combine with a AF-C custom setting for a soccer match with 9 year olds?

I think of young children like wildlife, lol. At least mine acts like that! So I use zone mode exclusively and with a setting of tracking but ignore obstacles.
