This is a back stairwell lit by temporary construction lighting of the former headquarters of The Boston Globe newspaper. The building is currently going through a partial demolition and renovation into condos and retail space. XT-2 and Rokinon 12mm at ISO 12,800.

Something unsettling about that image! Really good though.

Thank you. There was a definite dark and somber feeling throughout the building. It was also shot at ISO 12800, so I think it expresses the grittiness and current state of the building. I also shot it using the Acros simulation.

Just curious as to how you gained access to the site and if any parts of the building are open to the public.

I’m a licensed Sprinkler Fitter and I was there repairing and adding fire department building sprinkler connections and testing the fire hydrants for flow and volume. I had a very good opportunity to wander a vacant and abandoned Boston landmark with a camera. I’ll post some more shots from that day. Thanks for the interest in the image.

Nice. Well seen. I appreciate the toning a lot, too.

Thank you. I shot RAW/JPEG, but only transferred the JPEGS to my iPad for minor editing. I used the Acros simulation for all the shots that day, so I wanted to try and represent the image as I saw it in that moment. I tried to rely on camera settings rather than post processing for these images. I was using high ISO and I think the grittiness of the final images is a better representation of what I encountered that day. I really can’t say enough about the Fuji X system, it’s a great tool of expression.
