I like to think "luck favors the prepared" but yeah, there's always a fair amount of luck in these kind of pics.
I spent about 15 minutes watching these storms from an airport parking structure clicking off pics.

The luck was in the shape of the bolt.... thunderbird.... it's so good!

That's a very fine capture! Did you change the color much in post? I haven't yet got any lightning shots with my Fuji, but those taken with my Pentax always came out of the camera with more of a magenta hue.
The original flat RAW pic is a tad more magenta but still has that red-orange component around the lightning.
I tweaked it a little to emphasize that color component.
I suspect there was something (pollen?) in the atmosphere tinting it a bit in that direction.
That cell was about 30 miles north of my shooting location by a weather radar app on my iPhone.
