I had a Nikon 80-400 which was very good but sold it and bought the Tamron 150-600 and returned it because it wasn't very sharp and the replacement wasn't any better so back it went for a refund. Im thinking about the 100-400 Fuji but if its hit or miss to get a good copy Im going to hold off. I might be over reacting but this buying and returning to get a good copy isn't fun as Im sure others will agree.

I second this. Moreover: this a light lens ? mirrorless = light ? This lens is permanently attached to a tripod, so you can tell. Even Canikon never made such a mistake. It should have been f1.8-2.8, another reason for deep disappointment. And the stabilisation reaches only 5 stops - should at least have been 7, considering the small aperture. sigh.

I've owned two copies and both were stellar. I sold the first in a state of idiot. When I came to my senses, I bought the replacement and find the images to be sharp, vibrant, contrasty, wonderfully satisfying. You might get an odd duck copy, but I have had great results with both.

Thats encouraging thank you. I realize they can't all be bad but it seems like there are more defective ones then there should be.

I recently bought a s/h lens from WEX that was less than satisfactory in terms of image quality, the lens was returned to Fuji via WEX and now it is blisteringly sharp.

This makes me nervous. How do you know your lens is good? Do you have to compare several?

FYI: I sent mine back to FUJI and they returned it to me stating that it met factory spec. I remain quite unhappy with the lens and will be selling it asap. In my case, my Canon 100-400 got much better images. I love seeing the great shots that many of you are getting, I get great results with my 16-55 but not my 100-400. I'll probably get the 50-140 and the 80mm macro when it comes out this year.
